Rain of Light started in 2009 as a for-profit company with the structure of purchasing custom made jewelry overseas from Kenyan families. Once we received the items here in America, we resold them and donated about 30% of the proceeds to Action Against Hunger. Saving the remainder of the proceeds for the next jewelry order.
But things have changed; we have changed…
1. Rain of Light is a non-profit corporation. (pending)
2. Our priority is the cause; who we are helping and what is the most efficient way.
3. Rather than featured jewelry, we will now feature a village or community.
We will be sending someone to each village we feature, to assess the needs of that community (clean water, sanitation, food, education, etc), to locate the products the village is “known for” (every village is drastically different), and to take pictures to document it all. We want people to know, as much as possible, about the individual communities, the items we sale, as well as what their donations will be used for.
Where does the money go?
When we sale the items purchased from the communities, we will continue to donate (25%) to another non-profit with the same mission… to help provide stability to the lives of those in need. The remaining proceeds will go back into the organization.
Our fundraising events will allow us to build/sustain our organization as well as our inventory.
Donations to Rain of Light will be saved for the building up of the villages/communities by providing funds for a food program, sanitation education, vaccine/health program, water program, and/or an education program… whatever the need may be, we will be a part of the solution.
Rain of Light is not looking to save the world… but we are looking to save a life.
